Before your event
If you’re unsure, we recommend our most popular themes: Hollywood, English Mansion, or Great Gatsby (1920s).
Send us your:
– Theme
– Event date & time
– (In-person events:) Venue address
We will send you an invoice.
Once we confirm your payment, we will send you:
– Confirmation an MC is reserved
– Event invitations to forward to your guests.
Online: Each invitation includes the secret information for a single team.
Note: Custom themes or extra characters require extra time to prepare, and will be sent a week after payment is recieved.
We recommend selecting venues where:
- – Your event won’t be interrupted by the noise or movement of the general public.
– You have control over your room’s music.
– Everyone can see each other. Optimally there’s enough room for everyone to form a circle while standing, for minigames.
– The venue matches your theme, or you can add decorations to match your theme. - When preparing your venue it’s optimal to:
- – Set aside a table and chair just for the MC, near the music controls
- Note: Most restaurants and hotels will offer suitable rooms to run a murder mystery. We do not keep specific venue recommendations, but we can provide a venue research and selection service if you opt for a Bespoke VIP Mystery ($2,000-$25,000).
At your event
The MC will take care of your event from here.
If you have meals or other potential interruptions, just give your MC five minutes notice and they will work the game around them.
Your MC will arrive a half hour before your event starts to set up things like music.
On the hour, the MC will be in character and will welcome guests as they arrive.
In-person: The MC will provide guests name tags, starting money, and whisper them secret information about whether they were involved in the murder.
Online: The MC will help update guests’ names on Zoom.
Once all the guests are ready, the MC will run the grand opening. It includes the backstory of the murder, and how to play.
In-person: The MC will hand out pencils and note paper, and written evidence for guests to trade.
The MC will give everyone regular breaks to talk privately amongst themselves, and solve the murder.
Every 15-30 minutes the MC will run a minigame.
E.g. The MC may have people introduce themselves in character, or play classic party games like trivia and charades. People who do well are rewarded with extra inheritance.
The MC will depart and you can continue partying.
